About the Villages

Stoke and Hurleston are surrounded by beautiful countryside. The Shropshire canal meanders through our parishes towards Nantwich. At the Llagollen junction visitors can either navigate to Nantiwch or make their way via the majestic Hurleston locks to Llangollen and beyond.

The Canal and River Trust (CRT) owns and manages the canals and are responsible for all aspects of maintenance and for those wishing to moor canalside within our parishes.

There is an abundance of wiildlife that lives or make regular visits to us. It is not unusual to see swans gliding along the canal and, depending upon the season, their cygnets will often be in tow. Kingfishers, herons, ducks, owls and the occasional dragon fly can be seen in the area. At Hurleston reservoir there is a bird hide where you can observe a wide range of visiting birds more closely .

Stoke and Hurleston is rich in history. During the English civil war, Stoke, together with much of the surrounding area, was occupied by royalist forces. During World War II Stoke Hall provided accommodation for Land Girls. We also have a small number of Grade II listed buildings and structures in the area.

Whilst Stoke and Hurleston is in a rural area there is good access, via the A51, to major motorways such as the M6 and M56. There is a regular bus service whcih runs on the A51, taking passengers south east towards Nantwich and Crewe and noth west towards Tarporley and Chester.

This historic town of Nantwich is only 3.5 miles away with a variety of locally owned indpendent stores, cafes, restaurants and pubs/bars. It also has a railway station, with trains running to Crewe (with fast main line connections to Scotland and London), Manchester Piccadilly, Shrewsbury and South Wales, including Cardiff.

Stoke and Hurleston welcomes visitors - we want you to explore our area, enjoy the wildlife, have great walks in our beautiful countryside and perhaps enjoy the hospitality of our canal-side pub, The Barbridge Inn, or the tempting delights of Snugbury's Ice Cream, in Hurleston

As custodians of Stoke and Hurleston Parish and all that goes with it, when you decide to go home or to your next destination we ask just two things of you:

* Leave behind only footprints

* Take away only memories

Enjoy your visit!
